The friendship with Hans Söhnker lasted all life long. Hardy's friendship with Helmut Schmidt, the former chancellor of Germany, continues to this day, and the same can be said for Sean Connery, Richard Attenborough, Claudia Cardinale and Serge Bourguignon.
